Matthew’s Testimony

Heartland Boys Academy

My name is Matthew. I’m 17 and live in Minnesota. I struggled with drugs and alcohol but now am blessed to say I have been sober since I left for Heartland. Heartland desensitized me from almost everything bad, yes I still had cravings for certain things but overall a positive place to take a step back and understand what was making me depressed.

Heartland Boys Academy was an environment where there was constant support and coaching. I don’t regret anything from my past because I would not have learned the amount of things I did while there. I learned how to impose structure in not only my life but lead others with accountability.

I now go to a meeting every Thursday at church called Celebrate Recovery and it’s my favorite day of the week! There are ALOT of Teen Challenge graduates and supporters. Don’t get me wrong accountability is important, but passion for the lord and sobriety is what keeps me from not relapsing. I follow the 12-step program now. Most AA or NA meetings are 12 steps but this one is 100% faith-based.

Every time I leave church or meetings I know the enemy is out in the parking lot doing push-ups waiting to attack. That’s why the program is important for me because without structure the devil sets up stumbling blocks everywhere. I pray that many more kids are healed like I was and success stories come out of Heartland every time someone graduates.
